Virginia Cafaro, MD is an HIV Specialist in private practice in San Francisco. Her medical group, WellSpring, sees approximately 2000 HIV-positive patients in all stages of the illness. She is also a clinical instructor at the University of California, San Francisco, and has been involved in several clinical trials of antiretroviral therapies. Dr. Cafaro received a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University and her doctorate in medicine from The Medical College of Virginia. She trained in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and completed her infectious disease fellowship at UCSF/Mt. Zion Medical Center. She worked for several years with Marcus Conant, M.D., a world-renowned leader in the HIV medical community. Dr. Cafaro is now the director of WellSpring Medical Group, one of the largest HIV practices in San Francisco. She lectures to various medical groups on AIDS treatment issues.
